Lightning Strikes (2009)

The song "Lightning Strikes", originally written by Lou Christie and Twyla Herbert in the 1960s, became famous through this re-interpretation of German triangular eccentric Klaus Nomi. Felix Kubin and Sönke Held gave the story another twist, transforming the ambivalent lyrics into a Super-8 paranoia extravaganza.

Territerrortorium (2009)

Introductional film for the live performance of the radio play "Territerrortorium" by Felix Kubin and Wojtek Kucharczyk.

Hond Aerobic (2006)

"House Of National Dog" (H.O.N.D.) is a live comic musical by Mariola Brillowska about Germans and their love for pets. In the story, dogs replace children because they are easier to feed. During the preparations for the musical, some bluescreen scenes were shot with the Polish drag-queen dancer Leon Dziemaszkiewicz and his doggy troup. Later on, animations and acting by Mariola were added resulting in this peculiar video clip.

Directed by Mariola Brillowska

Matki Wandalki (2005)

"Matki Wandalki" (vandalizing mothers) is the title track of Felix Kubin's 2004 album release on A-Musik. The video features his new-born child in green colours connected to electric wires. No harm done.

Directed by Mariola Brillowska

Big Bug Attack - Groscher Lausangriff (2002, excerpt)

A wild animation treat by New York's vampire queen of experimental collage film. Some of the scenes were drawn directly on Super-8 film material, a technique that Martha Colburn often used in her earlier work.

Hotel Super Nova (2001)

Who is Dr. Love? What is the machine that is pressed into Felix's hands after he has been narcotized? Who is the boy in the fridge? This first music video of Felix Kubin, for which a whole artificial hotel has been build out of painted cardboard walls, raises many questions. It became one of the most popular films by the artist duo Kubin/Brillowska and was shown at numerous festivals, live gigs and on TV. Mariola Brillowska appears as a Teutonic goddess with laser eyes and as a Siamese twin with her daughter Gloria.

Read Keep Heed Follow - Ich will aufwärts ich will abwärts (2007)

Part of a performance work by Felix Kubin about instruction manuals (the German title meaning reads "I want upwards I want downwards"), this film was conceived by Dutch-American artist Julian H. Scaff using different kinds of found footage combined with choreographies of the performers. The whole piece was premiered at Tanzquartier Wien in Vienna in the year 2007. One year later, Kubin created a radio play version of the same subject that was broadcast on Westdeutscher Rundfunk.

Morgenröte (1999)

"Morgenröte" was planned as an appetizer for a feature animation film about two female scientists living in a matriarchy on a planetoid ruled by a clone of Madame Curie. As the big project hasn't come to existence yet, the short film turned into a stand-alone video clip. It's also one of the rare hand-drawn animated cartoons by Felix Kubin.

Directed by Mariola Brillowska and Felix Kubin

Liedertafel Margot Honecker - Vorwärts, FDJ (1994, excerpt)

Between 1992 and 1994, the dada-communist singing group "Liedertafel Margot Honecker" and its related political party "KED"(Kommunistische Einheitspartei Deutschlands = Communist Union Party of Germany) had a strong impact on the public media in Germany. Both groups claimed to be citizens of the former German Democratic Republic (GDR). They appeared in national talk shows, magazines, TV programmes, at concerts, cultural and political events – sometimes without being invited. A strange mixture of irony and seriousness underlied their actions. They avoided any comments on their intentions, nevertheless turning into catalyzers instigating discussions and sometimes fights in the audience. Their confusing political aims were articulated by KED chairman Dr. Kurt Euler who in his infamous speeches ranted against the 'digital medieval', the loss of values and dirty Machenschaften of bourgeois politicians.

Directed by Guido Weihermüller

Nackt (1996, excerpt)

Kubin's second pixilation film shows distorted faces of people doing arm-wrestling. The growing tension and its catharsis is accompanied again by artificial mechanical noises.

Directed by Felix Kubin

Die Pein vom Haupt entfernen (1994)

This was the first pixilation film shot by Felix Kubin during his studium of animation film. All the neurotic actions of cleaning are acoustically amplified by electronic sounds which result into a noisy cut-up video clip. Three years later, the film was transformed into a zoetrope LP object that was released by the Dutch label Rund um den Watzmann.

Best of Gagarin Records Night at Waagenbau - Hamburg (2003)

This document features a true pearl of collective screaming: a live collaboration between Felix Kubin and his friend Jacques Palminger who perform a song of a non-existent Charles Bronson film together with Rica Blunck and Viktor Marek. The lyrics are based on Bronson's interest in flowers. Palminger asks the audience to join him screaming at "the flowers" in order to see their reactions. The remarkable scene was documented by the Russian camera man Alexej Tschernyj.

Die Egozentrischen 2 - Der Materialist (Möbel Perdu 1984)

This concert of Felix Kubin's tetchy teenage band "Die Egozentrischen 2" (with Stefan Mohr) was shot on VHS and is probably the only visual live document of this duo. Möbel Perdú was a small multifunctional gallery founded in the early 80s by a.o. Claudia Schneider-Esleben, the sister of Florian Schneider (Kraftwerk). Although primarily conceived as an exhibition place for avantgarde furniture it soon became a meeting point for the underground art and music scene of Hamburg. Some of Germany's most creative artists exhibited and performed there, amongst them Minus Delta T, Pyrolator, Moritz Reichelt (der Plan), Rainer Kirberg, Westbam a.o.
